POSITION SUMMARY:
The Worcester Railers HC controller will be responsible for directing the organization’s financial and accounting policies and procedures, including financial analysis and reporting, budgeting and forecasting, daily cash management, audits, and balance sheet reconciliation. Controller will ensure credibility of finance and accounting group by providing timely and accurate transactions and analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts, and ensuring compliance with all ECHL financial requirements.  The controller will also handle some human resources requirements within the organization.

REPORTS TO: President

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Analyzes financial performance and cost analysis for all departments; prepares monthly financial statements, recommends appropriate actions/changes in order to meet business goals

  • Directs and maintains the general ledger, accounts receivable, insurance records, revenue recognition, depreciation, cost, property, and operating expenses

  • Prepares statements and reports of estimated future costs and revenues; prepares annual reports required by the ECHL

  • Monitors the Club’s financial activities, ensuring they are consistent with the Club policies, objectives and strategies

  • Human Resources – including overseeing employee benefits and maintaining vacation/sick time, and payroll needs

  • Recommends, drafts, and implements Club policies related to financial controls and monitors Club compliance

  • Maintains salaried & hourly employee’s records

  • Computes commissions for season & group tickets and corporate partnerships

  • Computes bonuses for sales staff

  • Prepares away game per diems (includes cash disbursements to players, coaches, trainers and broadcaster per ECHL collective bargaining agreement)

  • Prepares the annual budget, assembling documentation, and communicating with departments

  • Oversees work with external CPA firm for annual year-end financial statements, revenue sharing, and other activities

  • Directs Club’s Treasury functions, including cash flow management and handling of all banking matters

  • Develops, motivates and leads a well-trained, efficient finance and accounting team that represents the organization in a positive and professional manner

  • Collaborates with other internal departments to effectively facilitate necessary accounting (including outside services), finance, and purchasing functions

  • Reconcile with the DCU Center game day settlements and oversee all arena lease matters and issues

  • Perform treasurer duties for Worcester Railers HC Foundation

  • Work closely with the finance team at the hockey club’s parent company

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

     QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business; CPA required, MBA preferred

  • Minimum of two years relevant experience in a sports & entertainment industry

  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook as well as QuickBooks.

  • Strong personnel management, communication, time management and organizational skills

  • Proven ability to multi-task and manage projects on strict deadlines

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
