Game Day Operations Executive (Unpaid Internship) - Brampton Beast Hockey Club (Brampton, ON)

Organization Profile:
The Brampton Beast are the newest professional hockey team in Canada. After playing their inaugural season as a member of the Central Hockey League (CHL), the Beast are now members of the ECHL after the two AA leagues merged in early October, 2014. The Beast play their home games at the Powerade Centre located in Brampton, Ontario. The team is dedicated and devoted to serving the community while continuing to advance the sport of hockey by providing exciting sports entertainment for a growing fan base. Volunteer, internships, employment opportunities, player career development, youth programs, and small business partnerships are all aspects of the business that the Brampton Beast sustain.

 

Responsibilities:
The Brampton Beast Hockey Club is scouting for committed, energetic, and outgoing individuals with a passion for both customer service and hockey.  The Game-Day Operations internship provides a learning experience for those looking to develop their knowledge and skills surrounding sports and events business operations.  

The Game-Day Operations Intern will be responsible for:

  • Providing operational support during all Beast events and game-days
  • Assisting with event planning procedures in-office
  • Acting as a key member of promotions, event execution, and sponsorship fulfillment
  • Learning to plan, organize and execute elements necessary for in-game entertainment
  • Working with various departments to coordinate game-day strategies
  • Gaining knowledge of the facility and the Beast organization
  • Assisting with set-up and tear-down of equipment and game entertainment needs
  • Performing all other responsibilities and duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Must be recieving school credit upon completion of the internship program in order to be eligible for participation
  • Must currently be enrolled in an accredited college/university program. Preference will be given to candidates who are currently enrolled in college/university programs relevant to sports/business/management. 
  • Must be available to attend Beast Home Games and Events that take place during internship
  • Strong verbal/written communication and customer service skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Team-oriented nature, with an ability to work in a fast-paced group atmosphere
  • Outgoing and energetic with a willingness to learn
  • Able to exert force or lift up to 25 pounds
  • Knowledge and previous experiences in hockey would be an asset
  • Demonstrates commitment to the following 10 qualities: integrity, work ethic, positive attitude, results, teamwork, independence, creativity, confidence, leadership, and urgency

The Community Relations intern will be responsible for:

  • Identifying opportunities for The Beast to promote themselves in the Community (i.e. Community events)
  • Processing, tracking, and the input of donations and community partnerships
  • Supporting the planning and execution of all Beast events and game-days
  • Assisting in growing the Beast’s profile in surrounding communities (i.e. Mississauga, Caledon, Halton Hills, Orangeville etc.)
  • Assisting in silent auction, fundraising, and charitable giving initiatives
  • Providing administrative support to the department and the community relations coordinator
  • Assisting in youth hockey initiatives and youth programming
  • Developing community and grassroots hockey programs
  • Assisting in youth hockey sales efforts
  • Gaining knowledge of the facility and the Beast organization
  • Assisting with set-up and tear-down of equipment and game entertainment needs
  • Performing all other responsibilities and duties as assigned 

Requirements:

Marketing: Community Relations
Media/Community Relations & Social media Coordinator - Florida Everblades (Estero, FL)

Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Business Development and the Director of Media/Community Relations, this position is responsible for a variety of things including the oversight of all Everblades social media and website. This position will work closely with the Director of Media/Community Relations on many community outreach programs that include the involvement of players, mascot, and Everbabes. This position will also be responsible for some elements of game night production and pre-game preparation.

 MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND RESULTS EXPECTED:

¨      Responsible for maintaining all online marketing and social media outlets and including players/coaches into social media such as facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Text, and E-mail marketing along with assistance from Director of Media/Community Relations.

¨      Oversee social media strategy and implementation for all online assets and mobile apps.

¨      Ensure responses to questions and comments are done timely and appropriately for all social media implementation.

¨      Ensure that all promotions and ticket packages are being promoted across all social media platforms in a timely and effective manner.

¨      Manage any and all community outreach programs like Swampee Hero’s, Kid’s Club, Reading Program, and any other community event by ensuring mascot, player, and Everbabes appearances and all communication with the entities.  

¨      Responsible for maintaining the website along with assistance from the Director of Media/Community Relations.   

¨      Work directly with the Everbabes Captain in developing all aspects of the dance, skating and promotional team.

¨      Responsible for all player, mascot, and Everbabes appearances both inside and outside the building.

¨      Assist Director of Media/Community Relations on all aspects of Public & Community relations including media, community appearances, website, press releases, magazine editorial, and team involvement with the office/promotions

¨      Assist Director of Media/Community Relations on all aspects of the team publications including but not limited to game program, media guide, game program insert and game notes.

¨      Assist Event/Game Day Marketing Manager on game day activities which would include but not limited to tailgate parties, locker room signs, table diagrams, concourse passes, intermission promotions, kid of the game, puck drops, etc.

¨      Sell season tickets, group tickets, and advertising packages.

¨      Be present at all Everblades home games.

¨      Assist with the monitoring of the press entrance to grant admission to working press.

¨      Adherence to all Arena policies and procedures. 

¨      All other duties as assigned by management.

Graphic Design Summer Internship - Greenville Road Warriors (Greenville, SC)

The Greenville Road Warriors, minor league affiliate of the New York Rangers (NHL), are seeking qualified candidates for our Graphic Design Internship. The Graphic Design Intern will report to the Digital and Creative Services Coordinator and assist in the design and production of a wide range of projects – from game signage to advertising to emails. The primary focus of this position will be to support the graphic design department is any and all areas.


Responsibilities:

·Assist in creation of marketing and sales material including, sales flyers, marketing email blasts, newsletters, website graphics, print & web advertisements, Road Warriors’ game program, in game graphics and miscellaneous collateral

·Create game day video board graphics

·Assist in designing and maintaining Road Warriors’ website and electronic newsletter

·Assist in creating Road Warriors’ videos including promotional videos, highlights, news reports, interviews and in-game content


Qualifications:

·Ideal candidate possesses a strong work ethic, ability to work effectively with others, and a high level of professionalism. Must be reliable, self motivated and dependable

·Ability to multi-task in high pressure environment as well as take direction and apply sound judgment in decisions

·Must be able manage multiple projects and meet hard deadlines

·Must have some knowledge in the sport of Ice Hockey

·Experienced in the use of Adobe Photoshop,  Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Dreamweaver

·Knowledge of HTML and CSS coding preferred but not required

·Experience in journalistic writing preferred but not required

Community Relations Manager/Mascot - Kalamazoo Wings (Kalamazoo, MI)

Job Purpose:

Routine Responsibilities:

• Serve as full-time Community Relations Coordinator/Mascot for all in-game and outside community

events.

• Coordinate scheduling of mascot events for the Kalamazoo Wings Hockey Club.

• Develop, manage educational and community activities for the Kalamazoo Wings Hockey Club.

• Develop and manage our Kidz Club Program

• Oversee community relations interns and guide them towards success.

• Facilitate outside requests for charitable, promotional and community appearances and donations.

• Assist with the coordination of Game Presentation elements; in-game promotions, video skits, promotion

team members, and mascot character development.

• Create and develop new leads, prospects and business opportunities for SMC and K-Wings

• Execute specific sales goals for both K-Wings and SMC

• Make public appearances as determined by the Kalamazoo Wings

• Entertain crowd during games and intermission activities

• Represent the Kalamazoo Wings in a professional manner

• Use creativity and imagination to give “Slappy” a unique and identifiable attitude

• Additional duties and responsibilities as needed and required

Requirements:

• Strong skating skills (or ability to learn), athletic stamina to wear costume and perform in public.

 Minimum of two years experience in or around sports mascots or costumed character activities.

Ability to meet time, priority, and workload demands of varying work schedule throughout season

and off-season, including frequent nights and weekends.

 Ability to bring fan-friendly personality to mascot character.

 Strong communication skills with all levels within the organization.

 Ability to troubleshoot situations within mascot duties in a manner acceptable to the Kalamazoo

Wings organization.

 Creativity to actively collaborate with Game Presentation Department on mascot-themed elements;

video skits, stunts, activities.

GUIDELINES:

• Any repairs or cleaning of costume need prior approval by the Director of Promotions/Game

operations

• Notice of appearances will be given one (1) week prior to promotion date (if applicable)

• Kalamazoo Wings hockey Club will provide an escort during games with large crowds (subject to

Approval by the Director of promotions/Game Operations)

• Kalamazoo Wings Hockey Club will provide transportation to all off-site promotions

• Costume will be kept in Media Room closet designated for “Slappy”

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Able to sit or stand for long periods of time, up to 8 hours or more

Able to stoop and bend

Able to lift up to 40 pounds from time to time

Able to comply with safety standards
